The work takes its title from a geological term describing the slow wearing away of Earth’s surface. It was the last in the series of site-specific sand installations resembling an archaeological excavation. The layered structure of sand, cloth and plastic film that holds within it an array of hand-made replicas of items such as a conveyor belt, window pane, obscure tools and fastenings, calls attention to material abundance and the excesses of our modern lifestyle.
